Originally, the fight was made for the English title, but the British Boxing Board of Control downgraded the contest due to Akinlade’s setback. Instead, the heavyweights will contest a ten round eliminator for that belt and the IBO International crown.
Dominic Akinlade reckons that Saturday’s fight with touted heavyweight prospect Nathan Gorman in Crystal Palace will help to make him shine.
The 36-year-old from New Cross had a disastrous warm-up ahead of this weekend’s main event on Dove Promotions’ show at the National Sports Centre as he lost on points to debutant Josh Sandland.
But Akinlade is confident he will bounce back from his first defeat in the paid ranks as Ricky Hatton-backed Gorman – 8-0 with seven stoppages – heads to South London.
